Cookies for KAIROS

This ministry provides dozens of homemade cookies donated to KAIROS, a twice-yearly prison ministry program serving the incarcerated at R. J. Donavan State Prison.

Good Neighbor Center

The Good Neighbor Center operates under the direction of United Methodist Urban Ministries or METRO. The Good Neighbor Center was established in 1968 at Chollas View UMC in South East San Diego where it could serve the most people with the greatest amount of need. It is called the 'Good Neighbor' Center because it is a 'good' place to go in the 'neighborhood'. It is a drop-in site for adults and families needing food and clothing assistance.  The Good Neighbor Center depends on our contributions to help meet the needs of thousands of families each month.  Your donations help the center serve the many people that walk through their doors.  You can contribute by participating in our monthly food drive or donating clean, usable clothing and small household items.  Throughout the year look these other special opportunities to support the Good Neighbor Center:

  • Monthly Food Drive
  • Souper-Bowl Sunday
  • Mother's Day Diaper Drop
  • Ton of Food Drive (June)
  • Christmas Blessing Baskets

Labor for Your Neighbor

Throughout the year, we come together to help some of our neighbors in a real and tangible way. If you can paint, do basic yard work, fill gift bags, build planter boxes or benches, make placemats, wash windows, bake cookies, serve lunch at the Ronald McDonald House, wrap Christmas gifts, or work on a variety of other chores as a handyman or simply offer a helping hand, WE NEED YOU!

Loaves and Fishes

This ministry is a partnership between several United Methodist congregations in the San Diego area whose mission is to help meet the needs of hungry people. Groceries are distributed to 75 – 125 people at Wesley United Methodist Church. On the second Sunday of each month, led by our youth, we meet at Wesley UMC from 2:30 to 4:00 pm and help serve groceries to those in need. While it’s a simple and easy ministry, it’s also very rewarding.

Meals-on-Wheels

Each year more than 2,200 San Diegans donate their time to Meals-on-Wheels. Many of their senior clients say that the best part about their meal delivery is the friendly, caring volunteers. We have several groups of volunteers who donate two to three hours once a month to deliver meals to our neighbors right here in our own community for Meals on Wheels.
